Writing With Crystals

Here are some more of our Crystal science experiments.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
This is me and Frankie writing down definitions of some the of science words we learned in this study.

Malachy and Madison playing with play-doh while we do homework.

To write with crystals we used table salt and sugar and mixed them both separately with water. We wrote on black and white paper with each and after 10 minutes we looked at them through a magnifying glass. I wrote the word happy and Frank wrote Frank. I did sugar and Frank did salt.

The sugar was glossy and the salt was crystally (there's millions of mom in these pictures, hehe).

Proverbs 10:19

Yesterday when I was doing my words of wisdom (cursive) which I always have to write a Bible verse, I wrote a funny one and it said...
"Dont talk so much. You keep putting your foot in your mouth. be sensible and turn off the flow!"

Learning About Crystals

Frank's pipe cleaner

Emily's pipe cleaner

Today in school we started learning about Crystals. But first we have to learn about Atoms and Molecules. We took a journey through an atomic sized world to imagine what atoms would look like if we could see them.

Atoms are so small that you can't cut them or divide them. In fact the word Atom comes from a Greek word that means exactly that.

Molecules are a bunch of atoms grouped together.

Then we had to learn about three forms of matter, Gases, Liquids, and Solids.

Gases are atoms that are moving incredibly fast.

Liquids are atoms that move slower than gases but are moving all the time.

Solids are atoms that like to stay in one position but they still move, sort of like vibrate.

After that we mixed up water and sugar to see what would happen. What happened was when the sugar (a solid) and water (a liquid) got together the sugar dissolved into the water.

We also learned that sugar dissolves quicker in hot water than cold water because the atoms move faster in hot water and slow down in cold water.

After all of that we started a project to make our own Crystals. We made a heart and a letter F out of pipe cleaners. Then we tied them around a pencil with string and put them in a hot jar of water with some solution that came in our Crystal making kit. Then we covered it with toilet paper because we didn't have any paper towels. Now we just wait until tomorrow to see what will happen.

Our Grandpa Bill called while we were in the middle of this and he asked what we were doing and I (Emily) said we were making Crystals and he said, "You're making little Mommies?" Hahahahahaha! Because our Mom's name is Crystal!

It was fun fun fun funny fun fun!!!

Last week we learned about electricity and we might post about that later.

Love,
Emily and Frank (and Mommy too!)

My Secret Garden 2

Hello it's been awhile since I've last posted. Since the last time I posted until now I have been busy doing so much. The biggest thing that has happened to me is I had my third radiation treatment. I had to have it because I still have some cancer left in me. When I first heard the doctor say that I still have cancer I felt scared. I was scared because I didn't want another treatment because I was scared of the catheter. It hurts really bad when the put it in. But I didn't have to have it this time. I got up to pee over 30 times though in 2 days! I had to drink a lot to get the radiation out of me so I could go home.

I'm not happy that I still have cancer because I don't want cancer, I want it to go away. But it didn't so I'm just going to have to wait some more. I'm not angry with God or anything, I still love God and trust Him with all of my heart.

Last Thursday my Aunt Katie took me to My Secret Garden again with my sister, my cousin, and my mom. She took me two years ago and I had so much fun and I was excited to go again. I had lots of fun! I got my hair done, and my make-up, we got to dress up in pretty dresses, and we had a tea party. I didn't like the tea though it was sprite or 7-up and I only like water, milk, diet coke, or chocolate milk.

Here are some pictures....THANK YOU AUNT KATIE you are the best, I love you.

Meet Sarah!

This is my new little kitty Sarah. She is 7 weeks old. I got her on Thursday and she is Pippy's real sister!! My Aunt Gretchen got Sarah's sister. If you notice that yellow thing around her neck that is her collar. Just so you're not alarmed and scared or something. I bought that with my own baby-sitting money. It was 3.49. I love my Sarah very much.

My speech!!!!!

I had to write an improv speech in only 15 minutes and then I had to read it out loud. I read it to my parents, my brother, my sister, my aunt Gretchen, and my Grandpa and Grandma Miller.

Answers to Jami and Abbi's Questions

"Are you going to be in ballet this fall? Are you still singing?"

I am not singing anymore except for at home, in the shower haha, in the car, when I listen to my iPod, up in my room, in Frankie's room (but he says there is no singing aloud in his room, haha)and with Mommy. But I was going try out for Outloud (a singing group of kids at my church) but I was too young but now that I’m old enough they will not be having tryouts for it. I feel very upset about that. But I mite be doing ballet this fall my mom is trying to get me in a good ballet class called Dixon Dance it only takes 9 kids. If I can’t get in I will go back to the rec center.

That’s how much I know for now thanks for asking.

By the way I got a new Chihuahua (that's hard to spell).

Telling You

Last Thursday I found out that I have thyroid cancer and that I have to have surgery. When my mom and dad told me I felt scared. I know that some cancers can mean that you're sick. Some cancer means that you’re sick in a bad way. But my kind of cancer is a good cancer. When I think about my surgery during the day I feel scared and nervous because I never stayed in a hospitol before except for when I was born. My mom is going to stay in the hospitol with me the whole time though.that helps me to feel better.

Since I found out I have cancer mom and dad have been telling people that I am sick and I have cancer so they will pray for me. Hundreds of people are praying for me. Last night daddy's basketball team laid their hands on me and prayed for me.

Since I had cancer pepole are making cards for me it makes me feel speshel. I got one big huge giant one from the out loud team it made me feel happy and I got 3 in the mail 1 is from my teacher in promisland (its like Sunday school) and 1 is from miss Erin she is the prinsubull in promisland and 1 from great grandma mickey it made me feel good.

These are some of the emails I got………

This one is from my grandma carrie.

"For God so loV ed the world,
That He g A veHis
on L y
Begott E n
SoN
That whosoeverBelieveth
I n HimShould
N ot perish,
But have E verlasting life."
John 3:16

May your troubles be less, your blessings more, and nothing but happiness comes through your door!

This one is from Donna..........

"Hi Emily,My name is Mrs. Stanger. I am Mark's Mom. He says we have something in common. Thyroid surgery. I had part of my thyroid removed in December. I expected it to hurt a lot, but I was surprised afterward that it really did not hurt too much. Plus, they gave me pain medicine to help the pain go away too. I thought I would have trouble talking, but I was able to talk normally afterwards. I was able to eat too, and I like to eat. So, a lot of the things that I was concerned about didn't happen. I was in the hospital about three days. If I needed any thing there was this button to push and they would answer and tell me that someone would come soon to help me.They did put a drain tube in my neck which they took out in a couple days. It helped keep the swelling down, and they put strips of tape over my incision so I didn't even have to have stitches. I can still see my scar, but it seems to fade away more each day.The best part is knowing Jesus. He promises us to always be with us through good times and bad times. He loves us and is concerned about us. He is the Great physician and we can pray to Him and he helps us to be calm when we feel afraid. He gives us strength when we feel weak, He comforts us when we feel lonely. The Bible says, "I can do all things through Him, who strengthens me". in Phillipians 4:13 So, we know we won't be alone through the surgery and afterwards.I will pray for you and am sure many others will be doing so, and it is a great privilege to pray for one another. I pray that you will soon be feeling as good as ever.

May God bless you real good,
Donna Stanger "

I thought is was nice that she had the same surgery as me and it made me feel better.

These are from my cusin Sydney (she is my pen pal)..............

"Hi Emily, I hope you feel better soon. I'm praying for you and caring for you alot. We, as in, my mommy and I are really hoping you feel better. Happy Valentine's Day!!!! Love, Sydney "

"Hi Emily, I hope you are doing good and I wish you didn't have cancer because I love you even though I hardly DO know you, but I really hope you are doing great. I'm definitely praying for you every night. I love you so much and that picture U guys sent us was beautiful. Well, I gota'get doing my homework. Sydney. "

God

a message from mom...

Hey everyone, Emily was supposed to write a few sentences about how she thought America was beautiful. She didn't do that, instead all on her own, she wrote these beautiful thoughts about God. Also because we get asked a lot I wanted to clarify that Emily wrote this on her own and I neither added nor took away anything. She is also going to type it all out on her own. Also she knows that the last sentence isn't a complete sentence but we decided to leave it just how she wrote it the first time.

God
By Emily

I like to worship God. He loves me. He is kind to me. I love God and I do it right. My favorite time of the year is Christmas. I love God do you? Because He loves you.

The End
